Are you ready to have fun while celebrating the red white and blue? The 4th of July is a time to have fun but not with fireworks in the city of Yakima. Officials want to remind everyone that fireworks are banned in many cities in the valley but they are allowed in Granger, Harrah, Mabton, Moxee and Zillah under certain restrictions. In Moxee and Mabton you can only use fireworks on the 4th of July only. Firefighters urge everyone to attend the public displays in Granger, Selah, Sunnyside and Yakima.

The largest celebration is at Yakima at State Fair Park. The event starts at Noon Wednesday with carnival rides, games, music and fireworks. The Yakima Fire Department will spray water into the play area and you can get involved in a watermelon eating contest. A beer garden will also be open as well. The event is free. Parking is free.
