17-Year-Old Dies in Gang-Related Shooting in Sunnyside
A fatal gang related shooting in Sunnyside last week resulted in the death of a 17-year-old. Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies were called after a shooting between two vehicles at the intersection of Beckner Road and Rouse Road in Sunnyside.
DEPUTIES SPOTTED THE SUSPECT VEHICLE AS THEY ARRIVED ON THE SCENE
As Deputies arrived they spotted the suspect vehicle and started a high speed chase that ended in a field in which 4 people in the vehicle jumped out and ran away. The three juveniles and one adult were all arrested a short time later.
KIDS WERE NEARBY WHEN THE SHOOTING HAPPENED
Since the shooting happened at an intersection in Sunnyside there were lots of witnesses including several children who were in the area at the time of the shooting. After arresting the suspects Deputies received information from officials at Sunnyside Astria Hospital that a 17-year-old victim had been dropped off. The teen was being treated for a gunshot wound to the head. When the teen arrived he was in critical condition but he later died. He's not been identified.
THE SUSPECTS FACE A MURDER CHARGE IN THE GANG RELATED SHOOTING
The suspects are being held in the Yakima County jail and the Yakima County Juvenile Detention Center facing charges of 2nd Degree Murder and Drive By Shooting. The juveniles face charges as adults after being charged with murder in connection to the gang related shooting.
