The Yakima Salvation Army is working with a local elementary school to make sure kids have something to eat when they go home on weekends. San Juanita Ontiveros is the Family Service Coordinator who says they work with administrators at Roosevelt Elementary School to find needy children who need help with food. Ontiveros says they fill backpacks with a variety of food and snacks and allow the kids to take home the backpacks during the weekends. They help anywhere from 10 to 20 kids every week. And while they have the food for the backpacks they're looking for people who can donate new backpacks to replace those that are falling apart. If you can help you can drop off backpacks at KIT studios at 4010 Summitview or you can contact San Juanita Ontiveros at the Salvation Army at 509 823-1817.
