At its regular monthly meeting, the Yakima County Republican Central Committee (YCRCC) Executive Board officially nominated Republican candidates for the November 8th, 2016 election.

With the passage of I-872 in 2004, Washington’s “top two” primary system was created. Under that system, the Primary is not legally a political party nominating contest. This requires that the local Republican Party officially nominate candidates that have advanced beyond the August Primary. A nomination is not the same as an endorsement. A nomination by the Republican Party is a certification that the candidate running is officially recognized by the party as a Republican candidate for that office.

Article 2 section 15 of the Washington State Constitution defines the process for appointing replacements in the Legislature or in partisan county elective office. Nominating both Republican candidates in any partisan race is a certification that the Yakima County Republican Party views both candidates as Republicans and would have the ability to replace whichever candidate is victorious if they were to vacate the office in the future. This nomination is not a statement of preference for one candidate over the other, nor do they indicate endorsement of any candidate. The YCRCC has not endorsed any candidate in the current election cycle.
