The Yakima City Council Tuesday cancelled plans to create an incubator kitchen to help people create a new business. Council member Jason White says the kitchen would have given an advantage to some businesses that he believes would be unfair. Council members Kathy Coffey and Carla Mendez were the only council members who voted in favor of the idea and wanted to continue the project.
The council Tuesday also voted to accept a federal grant that will help fund 3 new firefighter positions. Those firefighters including another hired by the department will begin their jobs in February.
And the council declared an emergency in the city of Yakima in order to gain state and federal help if needed after the landslide off of Rattlesnake Ridge.
