GIG HARBOR (AP) Authorities say they are investigating after a worker excavating at a construction site near Gig Harbor found human remains.

The News Tribune reports the man was digging at the side of a house Thursday morning about 45 miles southwest of Seattle when he found bones.

Pierce County Sheriff's Department spokesman Ed Troyer says the worker immediately stopped digging. Multiple bones were recovered along with bits of clothing.

Troyer said investigators do not believe the bones are from an Indian burial site because the clothing found with the bones looked more recent.

Officials don't yet know who the person was or how the remains came to be in that location.
