What You Need to Know for a Legal Fourth of July — Dave’s Diary
We did it to ourselves. We may have had fun doing it, but the privilege is gone. We blew up too much stuff, started too many fires, hurt ourselves and others to a degree that the greater society stepped in and has taken away most of the fun! For most of us, except for community displays, the Fourth of July is fireworks-free.The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office is reminding us that under Yakima County Code 8.46, possession of all fireworks is illegal in Yakima County. A violation of this code is a misdemeanor and the violator can face a fine of up to $1,000 or incarceration for up to 90 days. Only enrolled Yakama tribal members on the Yakama reservation are exempt from this code.
The fire danger in Yakima County is extremely high as demonstrated by the recent fire on the L.T. Murray Game Reserve, so in all things celebratory of Independence Day -- let’s be careful out there!
