The Washington Policy Center has checked out Yakima's Prop 1 on the November ballot and has found it is a reasonable taxpayer protection policy.

The Center's Eastern Washington Director Chris Cargill says their research has found that it is modeled after similar legislation approved in Spokane and Pierce counties.

“We’re seeing a lot of local governments do this because they’re concerned that the State will soon push costs onto local government.”

The policy center also found the measure goes no further than what voters have approved at the state level. They also note that Yakima voters are used to this kind of legislation voting five times in the past on tax limitation policies.
