I didn’t see this study coming-and maybe a lot of couples feel the same way when it happens to them for real. Researchers at the University of Washington found there are two times of year when couples are most likely to file for divorce and one of them is right after summer vacation!  According to the UK Daily Mail, researchers analyzed divorce filings between 2001 and 2015.  They found divorces consistently peaked in August and after summer vacations as well as the time following Christmas and New Years.  The researchers say there seems to be a social taboo about filing for divorce during the holidays or vacations.

U-Dub researchers also say people tend to face vacations and holidays with rising expectations. Those are periods in the year when there's the anticipation or the opportunity for a new beginning, a new start, something different, a transition into a new period of life.  But often the stress of holidays and the forced togetherness of vacations reveal the splits in the marriage even more clearly.
