Tyson to Close 4 Chicken Plants and Organic Produce Sales Higher

**Tyson Foods announced plans to close four chicken processing facilities in the Midwest.

Tyson will shift production to other facilities in the first half of fiscal year 2024.

Tyson President, Donnie King says, while current market dynamics remain challenging, Tyson Foods is fully committed to delivering sustainable, top-line growth and margin improvement.

The company reported a 7.5% operating loss on chicken operations, and a 5.6% loss in pork.

**Organic fresh produce grew slightly in sales dollars and volume in the second quarter of 2023, reversing a trend of volume loss seen in 2021 and 22.

Overall, organic fresh produce dollar sales increased by 1.5 percent for the second quarter compared to the same period last year, with sales for the quarter topping $2.4 billion.

Volume nudged up slightly less than one percent, reversing a downward trend that started in 2021.

**The National FFA announced a record-high student membership of 945,988, an 11% increase from last year.

The number of FFA chapters also continues to grow, increasing by 168 this year, for a total of 9,163 chapters.

National FFA CEO Scott Stump says, “It’s exciting to see our numbers grow and know we continue to influence the next generation.”

The top five membership states are Texas, California, Georgia, Illinois and North Carolina.
