Two brothers, ages 10 and 11 remain in the hospital today after being struck by a car at the intersection of King Street and Rock Avenue around 8:30 Monday morning. Yakima Police Captain Rod Light says the driver, identified as 32-year-old Benjamin McKenzie was under the influence of drugs and was traveling northbound on rock avenue when he struck the two brothers in the intersection.

Light says both boys suffered severe injuries from being dragged under the car including broken bones and head injuries. Light also says the 10-year-old’s injuries were the most significant and was transferred to Harborview Hospital in Seattle. His 11-year-old brother is being treated at a Yakima hospital. Police arrested the driver.  Light says the 32-year-old driver is being held on two counts of vehicular assault. He faces the charges this week in Yakima County Superior Court.
