DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — Donald Trump says the TV news anchor with whom he had a confrontation at a Tuesday news conference in Iowa had been "totally, absolutely out of line."

Security personnel escorted Univision anchor Jorge Ramos from the event after he challenged Trump on his immigration proposal, which includes ending automatic citizenship for infants born in the United States to parents who are in the country illegally.

Ramos was later allowed back in, and he and Trump continued their argument, interrupting each other. Ramos told Trump that his immigration plan is "full of empty promises" and that "you cannot deny citizenship to children born in this country."

Trump responded that "some of the great legal scholars" would disagree with that assertion.

Citizenship for infants born in the United States is guaranteed by the 14th Amendment, and changing that would require amending the Constitution.

Trump tells NBC's "Today" show that Ramos was "ranting and raving like a madman."

Ramos, on ABC's "Good Morning America," said he's never been thrown out of a news conference before. As for his criticism of  Trump's proposal, Ramos said, "As a journalist you have to take a stand."
