Saturday means that the month of November has arrived, and with it the "No Shave November" observance to raise cancer awareness. Should I jump in?

According to noshave.org, the "No Shave November" website, these are the goals of the campaign:

The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free. Donate the money you usually spend on shaving and grooming for a month to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle.

Participate by growing a beard, cultivating a mustache, letting those legs get mangly, and skipping that waxing appointment. Give back even more by picking up some sweet merchandise to show your support. If you're not ready to sport a new shaggy look, consider donating anyway to support the cause.

On the surface of it, it might look like it's just an excuse for guys not to shave and look scraggly. Now I see more.

I lost both of my parents to cancer. I watched chemotherapy rob my mother of her trademark red locks when she was battling pancreatic cancer, and my dad lose his hair fighting multiple myeloma.

I polled some of my co-workers about whether or not to take part in "No Shave November."

I know that my attitude when putting together the video was kind of flip, but after further research, I see that it's a serious, worthy endeavor.

And I have to say that back in the day I could grow a pretty good beard.
