On Sunday, I got to meet one of my culinary and media heroes, Food Network's Alton Brown.  It was a short, yet memorable experience that I'll describe in depth for you.

Brown brought is Edible Inevitable Tour to Yakima's Capitol Theatre for a sold out show on Sunday night. It was a mixture of music, monologues, lots of laughs and some bigger than life cooking demonstrations.

On Sunday morning, Brown put this up on his Facebook page.

The geographic coordinates were for Yakima's Capitol Theatre. I grabbed some coffee, and got downtown at about 12:15 p.m. where a line of about 50 people had already formed. My colleague John Riggs from 107.3 KFFM was already in line, so I joined him to wait for the meet and greet.

After a short wait, Brown came out and started to meet his fans. He seemed to be genuinely happy to meet the people who came out to see him, and would autograph anything people put in front of him. One lady brought one of those expensive Kitchen Aid stand mixers with her and he signed that.

I didn't have anything for him to sign, but when it was my turn we introduced ourselves to each other, shook hands and had a short exchange. It went something like this:

Me:"I have to tell you that I've learned so much from you."

Alton: (Humbly) "Thank you very much."

Me: "You taught me how to brine a turkey, use my smoker better."

Alton: "What kind of smoker do you have?"

Me: "Electric."

Alton: "Okay."

And that was it.

His show was great, and the crowd was definitely one was very familiar with Brown's TV shows. My wife and I enjoyed it very much.

In one of his cooking demonstrations, Brown made what he called "Jet Cream" in a contraption made of plastic water cooler bottles and two fore extinguishers.

This video from another stop on his tour is what people saw on stage in Yakima Sunday night.
