Hopeful news out of the State Senate today with passage of a supplemental budget update that funds a tuition cut at Washington colleges and universities. In a news release the Senate reports the budget reduces tuition by as much as 15 percent .

Regional college and university students will receive a 15 percent cut while students at major universities like Washington State University will see an additional 10 percent cut.

“When Republicans won the majority in the Senate, we pledged to fight for college students,” said Sen. Michael Baumgartner, R-Spokane, an architect of the tuition cut. “This budget update is a big win for both students and their families, delivering historic levels of tuition reduction and the first major tuition cut in the nation.”
