Scammers are always busy in Yakima and police say the latest victim is a man who was told he won the Publishers Clearing House contest but first had to send money to claim the prize even though he never entered the contest. Yakima Police spokesman Mike Bastinelli says that should have been a red flag for the man.
The man gave the scammers financial information and sent cash before he realized it was just a scam. And in the end he contacted the Yakima Police Department after being scammed out of $10,000. And Bastinelli says since many of the scams are so sophisticated there's little if anything authorities can do.
