National Lampoon’s 1983 hit movie Vacation  made Walley World and the Griswold family part of the fun conversation for practically every summer vacation plan since. Now there’s a new Vacation movie, Clark’s son Rusty is grown up with a family of his own and it’s time for another summer vacation.  Rusty and his family are not alone.

85 percent of Americans are planning summer getaways, 90 percent of which will be by car.  So if Walley World isn’t your ultimate destination, where is the best place to go?  Personal finance website WalletHub took a look at 2015's Best & Worst States for Summer Road Trips.

Using 20 key metrics from average gas prices to the quality of roads to the number of attractions, WalletHub compared the 50 U.S. states to identify those that offer most fun for the least cost and the Pacific Northwest is tough to beat with three in the top ten!

Idaho comes in at number ten, Washington at number four and Oregon is the nation’s top road trip state.

Hey, as Dorothy said. “there’s NO place like home!”
