CONSERVATIVES IN YAKIMA JOINED TOGETHER

Hundreds of people were enthused and entertained during the annual Lincoln Day Dinner in Yakima on Saturday held at the Yakima Convention Center. The event, sponsored by the Yakima County Republican Party, is held every year as a big fundraiser and a time to gather local conservatives in one place.

Yakima County Republican Party Chair Matthew Brown, who is also a member of the Yakima City Council, says it was one of the largest crowds ever, with 901 people. Many were there to listen to the national talk show host and podcaster Charlie Kirk, but they also heard from Washington State gubernatorial candidate Semi Bird.

SIGNIFICANT FUNDRAISING SUCCESS FOR THE NONPROFIT

Kirk is a political activist and founder of Turning Point USA, an organization dedicated to educating and empowering young people to promote conservative values. His daily radio show can be heard on KIT from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Brown says the party raised upwards of $120,000 through its fundraising efforts during the evening, including a 'raise the paddle' event, and an area where people could bid on a wine wall.

OFFICIALS ARE READY TO PLAN FOR NEXT YEAR'S EVENT

Every year, local Republican party officials say the Lincoln Day Dinner "is an opportunity to celebrate the legacy of Abraham Lincoln, one of America’s greatest presidents, and to reflect on the timeless principles of freedom, liberty, and the republic that he championed." Brown says the event is "also a chance to connect with fellow conservatives and hear from Charlie Kirk, one of the most influential voices in the conservative movement today." Brown says the Yakima County Republican Party will soon start working on next year's event.

To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
