Rep. Dan Newhouse is being recognized for his conservative voting record. The American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF) has released its 47th Annual Federal Ratings of Congress and announced that Rep. Dan Newhouse is among the recipients of ACUF’s Award for Conservative Achievement.
Each year, ACUF produces an annual scorecard based on the voting records of members in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. All members of Congress are issued a score and awards are presented to those members who score an 80 percent or higher.
Rep. Newhouse (79% ACU Lifetime) earned 80% for the 2017 session.
“We applaud Rep. Newhouse for his continued support of conservative values, and working to achieve commonsense conservative solutions for the people of Washington State,” says ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp.
“I am proud to support pro-growth polices, including tax reform that has put more of your money back in your own pocket, and reining in federal regulations to strengthen job creation,” says Rep. Newhouse. “America’s private sector is the greatest engine of prosperity the world has ever seen, and as a conservative, I work to strengthen private enterprise so that families have the freedom to pursue opportunity. I am honored by this recognition as Central Washington’s conservative voice.”
This session’s scorecard is made up of 25 bills in the US House of Representatives and 21 bills in the US Senate. The bills selected cover a wide range of issues including fiscal and economic, social and cultural, and national security, and are designed to reflect how an individual views the role of government in an individual’s life.
This year some of the key issues ACU Foundation scored include:
·         confirmation of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court
·         repeal of Obamacare
·         passage of comprehensive tax reform
·         defunding of Planned Parenthood
·         repeal of Dodd-Frank
·         and key presidential nominations to cabinet positions.
ACUF is the sister organization of the American Conservative Union, the nation’s original conservative organization, and has for more than fifty years educated and activated the conservative movement through its ratings programs, policy centers and educational events such as the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the largest annual gathering of conservatives in the nation.
