4th District Congressman Dan Newhouse is fine with the short term appropriations act passed by the house today. ( H.R. 2028, the Further Continuing and Security Assistance Appropriations Act, 2017)  If passed by the Senate and signed by the President the measure would fund the federal government through April, 2017.  Newhouse say it buys president-elect Trump time to get organized and settle in.

In a press release Representative Newhouse (R-WA) said, “This continuing resolution gives the incoming administration of President-elect Trump the time it has indicated that it needs to transition and have a greater say in the appropriations process,” said Rep. Newhouse. “Under typical circumstances a short-term CR is far from ideal, but the election has upended the political landscape for the upcoming year and it is reasonable to give the new administration time to work with us to craft a responsible spending plan. This legislation also paves the way for congressional approval of Gen. James N. Mattis, a Tri-Citian, as Secretary of Defense. I look forward to making progress on Central Washington’s priorities and reining in government spending on conservative terms.”
