Winter is always hard on roads and streets and that stress comes with a pretty big price tag. Triple “A” (AAA) has released a study showing $15 billion in vehicle repairs over the last five years can be directly tied to damage caused by pot holes.

The message to motorists is be on the lookout. The message to municipalities and government is “get ‘er done” on road repairs.
Many of us will fix our own flats but each year AAA receives four million calls for flat-tire assistance and plenty them are caused by potholes.

Part of the problem according to AAA is that spare tires are missing from one third of 2015 models and that tire inflator kits replacing the spare tire in millions of vehicles over the last 10 can’t provide even a temporary fix for damage caused by pothole.
The typical pot hole headache costs drivers $300 to repair each time it happens and it often happens more than once. .

In a news release AAA advises, “When dealing with vehicle damage, it’s critical to select a high-quality repair facility such as a AAA Approved Auto Repair (AAR) shop. Once a facility meets AAA’s high standards, including certifications, technical training, cleanliness, insurance requirements and background checks, it becomes part of the AAR program where it’s re-inspected annually and monitored for ongoing customer satisfaction. AAA members receive unique benefits, including priority service, a 24-month/24,000-mile warranty, special discounts, free inspections, dispute resolution assistance and more.”
