• Sunnyside city officials want to hear from city residents about any concerns.

    The city is holding a town hall meeting at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Sunnyside Community Center.

    Director of Police Larry Dickerson says, “It’s a way for the police department to reach out to the community.”

    The meeting will be in both Spanish and English.

  • A 28-year-old man arrested after a fatal car crash in Selah was charged with vehicular homicide under the influence in Yakima County Superior Court Tuesday.

    Steven Gibbs has been held in the Yakima County Jail since the day authorities say he slammed his truck into a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Clayton Kester March 7th. Kester died at a Seattle hospital.

    Gibbs was injured in the crash but has since recovered.

    State Patrol Troopers say Gibbs was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash on North Wenas Road.

  • The back porch of a home in the 800 block of South 11th Avenue caught fire Monday and fire investigators say it was an arson caused fire.

    Crews say the home is under renovation and no one was inside when the fire started. Firefighters said the cause is under investigation, but they do suspect it was suspicious because they did not find any ignition sources in that area.

    The porch fire caused about $20,000 worth of damage.

  • Yakima Police say a body found in Miller Park on Monday is that of a 50-year-old transient who died late Sunday in the park.

    Someone discovered the body of Robert Kelley near the basketball courts and called police early Monday morning.

    An autopsy revealed he died of natural causes. The county coroner says he is waiting on toxicology reports however to tell him whether or not drugs and or alcohol played a role in his death.
