Military Dad Surprises Family In Front of 85,000 at College Football Game

When Tammy Faile and her two children were chosen as the military family of the game for South Carolina’s match up Saturday against the University of Georgia, they probably expected some sort of message from their husband and father Sgt. First Class Scott Faile, who is stationed in South Korea.

And that’s what they got at halftime, a video message on the University of South Carolina’s Williams-Brice stadium’s Jumbotron.

It was an emotional recording, in which the Sergeant thanked his family, who were standing in the middle of the field, for all the sacrifices they’ve made. As Tammy, Breanna, 15, and Cameron, 10, began to choke up, many of the 85,000 fans in attendance did the same.

Then came the big surprise. Scott wasn’t in South Korea, where he recorded the video. Instead he was at the game. When they saw him emerging out of the tunnel and into the endzone, Tammy, Breanna and Cameron sprinted toward him like they were each trying to return a kick for a touchdown as the crowd went nuts.

Scott admitted he didn’t expect such an emotional response from those in attendance.

“I had absolutely no idea. I mean, I didn’t even have a thought. That’s what just made it so overwhelming,” Sgt Faile said to ABCNews about walking onto the field and hearing the crowd’s reaction. “I think the entire stadium was in tears. Over 85,000 people were in tears.”

And if that wasn’t enough, Scott’s beloved Gamecocks crushed Georgia 35 to 7 in the game.
