Tuesday was the last day on the job for Yakima City Manager Cliff Moore. Moore has taken a new job as director of Washington State University Extension in Jefferson County. Last month the Yakima City Council appointed an acting city manager and at the Tuesday Yakima City Council meeting Cynthia Martinez took the oath of office. Martinez is the current senior city attorney. Her new job starts Wednesday and she'll serve in the position of acting Yakima City Manager until a city manager is hired.
The council Tuesday voted against a proposal to update the city dog barking code. Under the proposal the city was considering a change that would hold owners responsible for dogs that bark more than 20 minutes by having them pay a $250 fine. Currently dog owners face a fine after three complaints are made to the city.
City council members also talked about immigration. A update on federal legislation was included in the council information.
