I am about to embark on a weight loss effort…change the diet/lifestyle and work out with the great folks at Achieve Fitness http://achievefitnessyakima.com/ …So I am currently scouting for information about healthier eating and getting more out of the foods I do eat.

I found and article and a joke.  Woman: My husband thinks he’s a chicken…he clucks and scratches and eats corn and bugs. Friend: Why in the world don’t you take him to the doctor? Woman: Cu’z we need the eggs.  Ba-DOOM-pah.

Turns out maybe we really DO need the eggs if we want to lose weight….in fact new research shows you may wind up eating less later if you replace your Wheaties with eggs.In a small study conducted by Nikhil Dhurandhar, PhD, an associate professor in the department of infection and obesity at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, LA, participants who ate eggs took longer to show signs of hunger than those who ate cereal.  That’s what we want…less hunger and the right kind of hormones!

During the three hours between breakfast and lunch, egg-eaters in the study had lower amounts of ghrelin, a hunger-stimulating hormone, and higher amounts of PYY3-36, a hormone that signals fullness.

Scientists believe the protein in eggs may make us feel fuller longer than the protein in wheat, and that focusing on the type of proteins we eat could be a good way to control our weight.

“This study shows that diets with higher protein quality may enhance satiety, leading to better compliance and success of a weight loss diet,” Dhurandhar said, adding, “Long-term weight loss trials to compare the manipulation of protein quality without increasing protein quantity should be explored.”

My plan includes whipping up three or four omelets Sunday night and using them to start the day.  Stay tuned for the results of MY study.
