Want to get your employees to work longer?  Consider flexible hours.

New findings published in the European Sociological Review looked at German workers over a number of years and found flex hours piled up more than regular hours.

So why do workers with more flexible schedules tend to work more hours? One theory researchers offer is that people treat the freedom they're given as a gift, and they then compensate for the gift by working harder.

Its kind of a show of trust from the boss and good workers don't want to break that trust.
