O.K., I'll admit it. I had too many Christmas goodies over the holidays and it showed up on my bathroom scale.

Even though I've had Lap Band surgery and lost a lot of weight through that, it's still possible to gain weight. I did just that during my Christmas vacation. For the last three weeks of December, I decided that I was going to relax a bit from the stringent regimen of diet and exercise that I've put myself on in the last 18 months. I made it through Thanksgiving just fine, but availed myself of Christmas cookies and other treats more or less at will. My workout routine also took a hit with all of the holiday activities my family was involved in.

It's a simple formula:

Higher calorie foods plus less physical activity equals weight gain.

I didn't crack double digits in pounds put on, but it's enough to remind me that I do not metabolize sugar very well.

Message received.

Fortunately, between my Lap Band and better mindset, it won't be hard to get the holiday pounds off. The biggest thing I'll have to deal with will be the crush of new people hitting my gym armed with well intended new Year's resolutions to get in shape. It will be crowded for a while, but should thin out again in a few weeks.

I'll report back on my progress next month.
