The 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player’s Draft began June 4, and the Arizona Diamondbacks selected catcher Stryker Trahan 26th overall. Trahan is a six-foot-one high school player at Acadiana High School in Louisiana, where he bats left and throws right. He had committed to play collegiately at Ole Miss prior to being drafted. According to Maxpreps.com Trahan hit .460 with nine doubles, five home runs, and 31 RBIs in 111 plate appearances over the Acadiana Rams’ 35 games this spring. The Diamondbacks next pick is the 30th in the second round (pick number 90 overall).

The draft will continue with the second round June 5 and then the 16th round June 6 starting at 12:00 p.m. EST each day and continuing until all 40 rounds are complete. Many of the players drafted will be reporting to Yakima June 13 for a summer with the Bears. The club looks to have its roster set by June 14.

The Yakima Bears begin the season June 15 in Eugene and will play at home for the first time on June 20. Season tickets and mini plans are on sale now at the downtown Bears office at 17 North  3rd Street, Suite 101, and online at yakimabears.com.
