• An industry expert is encouraging producers not to let their guard down when it comes to PEDv, Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus. PEDv, a virus that has already plagued many countries around the globe, arrived in the U.S. in 2013 and hit its momentum in December.
  • According to the annual American Farmland Trust (AFT) survey of state farm and ranch land protection programs; while funding increased 19-percent from 2011 to 2012, funding levels are still 39-percent below where they were in 2008. AFT’s Andrew McElwaine says state budget cuts have hit agricultural land protection programs hard in the past five years.
  • The agriculture ministers from 65 countries recently released a joint statement that the efforts to rid the world of hunger face immense challenges as farmers deal with resource scarcity, climate change and loss of soil fertility. The statement blames economic and financial crisis, as well as excessive price swings, for the uncertainty that endangers investment in agriculture.
