So you watched the May Day protest march coverage on TV both here and around the country and you heard the chants in Spanish, you saw the signs written in Spanish and your brain started to boil a bit.  You believe, like I do, that English should be the official language of America and all who want to be Americans should be required to learn English…as respect to the country and to prepare to fully function within the country.

Turns out being fluent in a foreign tongue increases cognitive abilities in the younger years and makes the brain healthier later in life, offering protection against dementia…so encouraging or requiring English also provides a health benefit!

Researchers in England say speaking two languages can strengthen key brain pathways and enhance mental flexibility. They also found bilingualism has a beneficial effect on cognitive development in children…and…it also makes the brain more resilient as people grow older.
