• Several counties in Idaho and Oregon have been declared primary natural disaster areas due to recent weather related issues.

The declaration by USDA allows all qualified farm operators in the designated areas eligible for low interest emergency loans from USDA’s Farm Service Agency, provided eligibility requirements are met. Farmers in eligible counties have eight months from the date of the declaration to apply for loans to help cover part of their actual losses.

FSA will consider each loan application on its own merits, taking into account the extent of losses, security available and repayment ability.

  • The Oregon Department of Agriculture has been awarded a $53,000 grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to be used for implementing livestock management techniques or nonlethal wolf deterrent techniques designed to discourage interactions between wolves and livestock.

Currently, 11 counties have approved wolf programs in Oregon with other counties working on getting programs established. These counties can then apply to ODA each March for grant funds to cover depredation losses and injury, missing livestock, prevention, and administration costs.
