Having two children involved in this fantastic program means my Saturdays are tied up for the next six weekends, but the experience it brings to my family is well worth it.

According to it's website, Upward Sports is " largest Christian sports league for youth athletics, focused on developing the total athlete mentally, athletically, spiritually, and socially. "

The local Upward Soccer program is sponsored by West Valley Church of the Nazarene at 72nd and Nob Hill in Yakima. This is where all of the practices and games take place. Volunteer coaches and parents make sure that it's a positive learning experience for all involved.  Participants are taught the basics of soccer, teamwork and sportsmanship. The program is open to both boys and girls from pre-school to sixth grade.

Every Saturday, hundreds of kids and their families descend on the fields at West Valley Church for games that run from 9 a.am. to 1 p.m. The atmosphere is festive, with all of the teams running through an inflatable tunnel as each team is introduced, then running through a gauntlet of families giving them high fives. Each session starts with a prayer for safety, sportsmanship and fellowship.

This program has been a very positive experience for my family. My eight-year-old son is now in his third season, and my 11-year-old daughter is playing for the first time. It's great for them and the whole family.

So, if you're looking for me the next six Saturdays, you know where I'll be!
