A listener did something for me on Monday that left me speechless. I still don't know what to say.

A while back, I got a phone call from a listener that I had met on a Mariner's spring training trip my wife and I went on about 13 years ago. Her name is Sandy. She and her husband are a very nice couple, and it was fun to be on the trip with them.

She called one day to tell me that she had some new shoes she had purchased and did not wear and would my teen daughters like them. I said sure, bring them by. Time passed, and I kind of forgot about it.

Today, I was paged to our lobby, and here was Sandy with a couple of shoe boxes. I took them, said thanks, and then she pressed a bill into my hands and said "Buy your kids a hot dog". I glanced at it, saw a one and a zero and thought it was a ten spot. I protested that I couldn't take her money, but she insisted and was out the door in a flash.

I tried to stop her, but she was headed for her car. She said that she admired my wife and I for having adopted five children, and that we were and inspiration to her. Then she was in her car and gone.

I looked down in my hand at the money she was adamant that I take.

It wasn't a ten dollar bill. It was a hundred.

As I go through life, I don't think of myself as being particularly inspiring. I guess our way of helping kids find a permanent home inspired Sandy.
