Tree Of Life Stitches Us All Together

The circle of life as sung by Sir Elton John, as great as it is, has nothing on the new "tree of life" that shows just how the world's 2.3 million species of animals plants, fungi and microbes are all connected.

CBS News says the project shows the relationship between almost all living things as they evolved and diverged from one another. It tracks back to the beginning of life on Earth more than 3.5 billion years ago.  Talk about your six degrees of Kevin Bacon!

The project involved 11 institutions and was published by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
