Zika Case Found In Spokane Valley

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A woman in her 20s has been diagnosed with the Zika virus in Spokane County.

Local health officials say the Washington resident was infected while she was traveling out of the country.

The Spokane Regional Health District says the woman was pregnant when the symptoms occurred, and has since given birth to a child who tested negative for the Zika virus.

The Spokesman-Review says Zika virus can be spread from a pregnant woman to her fetus.

This is the second confirmed case of Zika virus infection in a returning traveler to Washington state. The first was in a Mason County, Washington male who recently traveled to a Zika affected area.
