The Yakima Training Center's Air Ambulance detachment is saying farewell to the UH-1 Huey helicopter during a ceremony on Wednesday. A special guest for the ceremony is former UH-1 Huey pilot and Medal Of Honor recipient Col. Bruce Crandall, and the guest speaker is Master Aviator and former 9th Aviation Battalion Commander Col. Philip Courts. Many know Col. Crandall from the movie We Were Soldiers with Mel Gibson. He lead the first major division operation of airmobile troops into landing zone x-ray in vietnam and is credited with evacuating some 70 wounded comrades in november of 1965 flying a uh-1 huey helicopter earning him the Medal Of Honor.

The UH-1's at the Training Center are being replaced with more modern helicopters.
