The Yakima office of The American Red Cross is collecting donations to help people in the Philipines hit by a large typhoon last weekend.

Executive Director of The Red Cross in Yakima Lisa Kapuza says many people have been donating online and some have even stopped at the Yakima office to drop off checks. “On Wednesday a 97-year-old woman stopped in the office and wrote a $5,000 check to help it was an amazing day.”

Kapuza says despite reports of help not getting to the hardest hit areas the Red Cross is helping in every area and working alongside many other international organizations.

The public can drop off money at the Yakima office, text 90999 to make an automatic $10 donation or donate online at red cross.org. People can also donate to the Super Typhoon Fund at any Key Bank branch in Yakima.

The Yakima office of The American Red Cross is located at 302 South 2nd Street.
