Yakima Police Say Woman Died After Playing With Gun

Yakima Police say an 18-year-old woman found dead On Sunday morning in a car in a parking lot at 3rd Street and Arlington Ave. died of a tragic accident and not a homicide. A news release from the Yakima Police department identifies the woman as Sofia Ramirez. Detectives say Ramirez was at a party and was apparently intoxicated while playing with a loaded firearm. The gun fired and Ramirez was struck by a bullet and killed. Afterwards police say others at the party panicked, placing the victim in the vehicle and dumping the vehicle and victim at 3rd Street and Arlington early Sunday morning.

Detectives say they interviewed a number of people involved and a crime scene was found at a nearby home where detectives served a search warrant. A gun was found at that location that's connected to the shooting and other physical evidence was also found. However no charges or arrests are expected in connection to the death.
