The Yakima Police Department recruiting officer Hailie Meyers is looking for people who want to become future police officers. Meyers who appeared on The Morning News on KIT Thursday says there's no age limit all you have to do is pass what Meyers calls challenging physical and written tests. "We're trying to focus locally we'd love to get people from the area to be police officers. But in addition we've been going all around the state and even some neighboring states."
Meyers says they're looking to fill the ranks of the department. The department has 135 commissioned officers but it is budgeted for 148 officers.
Meyers says she also works with the local military in the search for future officers. The average base salary for beginning officers is an average of $54,000.
