Police in Yakima are busy investigating drive by shootings every week on average. Our news partner KIMA Action News reports just last year, there were 48 drive-by shootings. More than 75 percent of the shootings happened in the Northeast part of town. Twenty were in neighborhood areas but there were also ten in the heart of downtown. Areas located west of 16th avenue, had just 11 drive-bys in all of 2010. As for catching the shooters, police say it's tough to get witnesses to come forward so arrests are rare in drive by shootings.
