Phase 1 of a 3 part certification to have your property certified by the Yakima Police Department as a “Crime Free” rental property is coming up next month.

Free training for Landlords and Rental Property Owners is October 7th, 9th, and 16th from 6-9 p.m. at the Yakima Police Department Special Operations Building at 207 S. 3rd Street.

The Crime Free Rental Housing program is a partnership between the Yakima Police Department, local landlords and tenants working together to foster a safer and healthier community in rental housing.

Through education and support, the Crime Free Rental Housing Program addresses rental based illegal activities and special needs with the goal of reducing calls for police service and creating a safer and more stable living environment for residents.

Persons interested in attending the Crime Free Rental Housing training can contact Shelly Owens with the Yakima Police Department at 575-6184 or shelly.owens@yakimawa.gov <mailto:shelly.owens@yakimawa.gov>.

Persons attending the training must attend all sessions to receive a completion certificate in the course.

The deadline to register is October 1, 2014.
