The Washington Health Care Association presented a big honor for a nurse in Yakima. Jennifer Miner is Washington state's assisted living nurse of the year.

Miner is the residence care director at Chesterley Meadows in Yakima. She has worked at the facility for five years and specializes in working with dementia patients. She says it is a big honor to get the award and says she was shocked when she heard the news.

"I mean awards are nice, but it was not my goal. It was just really nice of my executive director to nominate me. I just love what I do," Miner said.

Miner says she used to work as a nurse in a hospital emergency room before she realized her passion for working with the elderly.
