The Big Jackpot Win You’ll Have To Pick Up Cash In Tri-Cities
The next time you hit a big lottery jackpot you won't be able to collect your money in Yakima. That's because on November 16 Washington State's Lottery’s central regional office at 9 South Fifth Avenue is moving to the Tri-Cities. The new office will be located at 8551 W. Gage Blvd. Suite K, Kennewick. The new office is expected to open on November 20.No jobs will be lost.
THE NEW OFFICE WILL BE LARGER AND MORE PROFITABLE FOR LOTTERY PLAYERS
If you play the state Lottery you've probably dreamed of cashing in a big ticket at the office.
“We’re really excited to have a larger, official presence in the Tri-Cities with our new Regional Office,” says Joshua Johnston, director of Washington’s Lottery. “It’s an area where player demand is strong, retailer support is high, and where we see the opportunity to match the growth of the surrounding population with our own."
WHY LEAVE YAKIMA?
The Yakima office has been open since 1982. However Johnston says there's good reason for leaving Yakima and setting up in the Tri-Cities. One being an expiring lease on the Yakima office which forced the state to explore options including moving its office 75 miles to the Southeast because "it was a better business decision for the state and would return more value to Lottery beneficiaries."
NOT JUST A PLACE TO GRAB YOUR CASH
He says the new location will allow players to claim prizes but will also be a place where people can learn about how the lottery works and helps the state including more than $5 billion in "contributions to education and other initiatives since the Lottery was established in 1982."
