So far 11 cases of hepatitis A in an outbreak in Yakima County that so far is limited to the homeless or drug populations in Yakima County. But health officials from the Yakima Health District say the strain in Yakima is related to a similar outbreak in Spokane.
A multi-county hepatitis outbreak was announced by the Washington State Department of Health on July 30. Since then genetic testing has determined the link to Spokane.
Last week the Yakima Health District announced the Yakima outbreak had grown to 11 cases. Lilian Bravo with the Yakima Health District says they'll continue to work this week with local agencies to get more than the 74 people already vaccinated in the local homeless population.
