Say Hello To Yakima’s Christmas Tree on Tuesday
It's a holiday week..and the city of Yakima is preparing for the season as they prepare the downtown area for the arrival of Yakima’s Community Christmas Tree on Tuesday, November 22nd. Crews from the Downtown Association of Yakima along with the City of Yakima Public Works Division and Russell Crane say after finding a tree last week the tree will be removed this week and moved to the tree to Millennium Plaza, and placed in the ground on Tuesday.
The tree arrives on Tuesday morning
City officials say the tree will arrive between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm on Tuesday. A press release from the city says the arrival "will not impact traffic, though parking spaces adjacent to Millennium Plaza on 3rd Street will be closed to accommodate the installation."
Will you attend the tree lighting ceremony?
The tree is approximately 30 feet in height prior to grooming and trimming for installation.
Plans for transporting the tree to Downtown Yakima are subject to change dependent on weather and equipment.
The official tree lighting ceremony will be Sunday, December 4, at the conclusion of Downtown Yakima’s annual Holiday Lighted Parade. The parade is expected to attract thousands of people to downtown Yakima to watch the event and celebrate the holidays. Many people park along the parade route and cook dinner and enjoy a party atmosphere during the parade. Tailgating for the parade has become a popular activity downtown.
Volunteers with DAY will hang lights on trees in the Plaza area prior to the parade and lighting ceremony.
