Pumpkins, haunted houses, black cats, foliage…when is it appropriate to decorate my house? Well there are a number of answers depending on if you are a radical fall enthusiast, a trend follower, or a traditionalist.

The Radicals

The most radical fall enthusiasts are known to set up fall decorations during the end of August! Yikes. When it still can be 100 degrees in Yakima, I can’t help but thinking that’s a little too soon. But even late August is too late for some people, I began seeing Halloween content on my Instagram for you page the day after the 4th of July. Unacceptable.

The Vast Majority And The Traditional View

The vast majority of Americans set up fall decorations after Labor Day or during the first two weeks of September. Weather is slowly cooling and everyone is getting back into the school routine which is why this time makes much more sense. Most people begin layering in more Halloween themed items with their fall decorations around October 1st.

This certainly follows traditional motif. The first two weeks of September are the traditional time to take down summer and phase fall in which perfectly matches with the beginning of cooling weather during early September.
So Yakima fall enthusiasts, I give you my permission to get on it! It’s officially time to celebrate my favorite season.

I’m now ready for fall decorations, not in the middle of July! Meteorological fall begins on September 1st so then and only then is it okay to decorate for fall! I’m serious!
