Earlier this year the Yakima City Council approved a feasibility study for an east side pool. On Tuesday the council will take its first look at the study. The pool has been proposed for Martin Luther King Jr. Park. The study identifies three possible designs for a community outdoor pool, provides an estimated cost to construct each of the designs and the estimated operational cost for each pool.
City council members say a new pool will keep kids from unsupervised swimming in the Yakima River where they say many kids in southeast Yakima go to cool off in the summer months. They believe a new pool will be more popular than other pools that closed in the past because they'll have more inviting designs and fun features with areas where families can gather.

The council meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Yakima City Hall.
