The Yakima City Council is expected to vote on a resolution next month that will end the use of the E-Verify system in the city of Yakima. The system has been in place since 2011 for hiring, vendor services and contracts. A resolution passed on a 3-2 vote Tuesday. Council members Brad Hill and Carmen Mendez were absent.
The resolution will appear on the June 4 agenda when the council is expected to vote to rescind the use of the system.
E-Verify is a web based system that allows enrolled employers to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.
