Yakima City Council Approves Temporary Camp Hope
The Yakima City Council on Tuesday approved a contract amendment allowing Transform Yakima Together to operate a year-round temporary homeless camp on city owned property near the wastewater treatment plant on East Nob Hill Blvd. until November 15, 2020.
City council member Kay Funk voted against the proposal and Brad Hill was absent.
To allow the city to continue to call the camp temporary the city will require that the camp be vacated every five months so the city doesn't face liability if crime happens at the camp.
The Director of Transform Yakima Together says they'll use motel vouchers and find other temporary places for people to stay when the camp must be vacated.
The city is still hoping to create a permanent camp at the site so it doens't have to vacate every five months. City officials are working on that plan Today.
