It's been a challenge keeping the Yakima Airport open this week with all the freezing rain says airport Manager Rob Peterson. He says they've had to close the airport this week because of severe weather conditions. Peterson says  says large airports have equipment in place to combat those conditions but he tells KIT News. "The smaller airports we just don't have the equipment as well as the funding to place those products on the surface so it doesn't freeze."
The airport was closed overnight because of the freezing rain and slick conditions but it was re-opened at about 7:00 a.m. Flights are on time but Peterson says things can change fast. He recommends calling ahead before you arrive at the airport for your flight.
